, harmless. the other in benghazi. focused and deadly. protesters in cairo answer a preacher's call on tv to go to the u.s. embassy to denounce a video made in the u.s. that insults islam. by 6:00 p.m., protesters scale walls. no one is hurt, but egyptian police are noticeably slow to arrive. around 10:00 p.m. in libya, militants attack the u.s. consulate in benghazi. they set the consulate on fire. over the next five hours until nearly dawn, u.s. and libyan security personnel inside the consulate battle the militants building to building. four americans, including the consulate, were killed. today, the libyan government, which has close relations with the united states, apologized. and there was a pro-american demonstration in benghazi. but elsewhere in the region, there were anti-american demonstrations. in afghanistan, the government blocked access to youtube. and in egypt, where it all began, the protest in front of the u.s. embassy. richard engle, nbc news, cairo. >> here at home, dozens gathered outside the white house to denounce the violence in libya. live in d.c. with the calls f

the men's service. they were killed in that attack in the u.s. embassy in benghazi. >> now, more on an attack that killed two american service members in air base. it a it's the same base where england's prince harry is stationed. reports say the prince was not hurt. nbc news chief pentagon correspondent joins us by phone. first, mitt, can you tell us more about what happened this in that attack? >> well, officials tell us that this was a complex attack. in other words, it went on for some time. very well organized. it involved small-arms fire, rocket fire and some mortar fire at camp bastion. now, tragically enough, two u.s. marines were killed in that attack by presumably th the taliban. but what drew world attention, of course, is this is where prince harry who just arrived on his second four-month tour for the british military is based there at camp bastion. now, what was odd about this is that when he arrived, the british military itself issued a press release and even video of harry there in an hipachee helicopter. now, in previous visits, there was no public announcement.

in that attack on the embassy in benghazi. glen dougherty and tyrone woods were both working as security contractors. the state department writes that, as a registered nurse and paramedic, woods had the hands of a healer as well as the arms of a warrior. dougherty's family says he was part of the team that rescued private jessica lynch in iraq in 2003. four people have now been arrested in connection with the attack on the embassy. >>> a developing story tonight in germantown, fuse caught fire knocking out power to more than 100 customers tonight, including a giant food store. this is exclusive video shot by a viewer. the fuse was on clopper road here between germantown road and great seneca highway. police had to detour traffic if the area. the road is back open at this hour, and power is back on. >>> now to northwest d.c. where mosquitoes are invading a neighborhood and raising fears about the west nile virus. tonight news4 took complaints from residents to a local council member. and tomorrow the department of health is planning to investigate. sha mary stone takes us to the scene. >>
